Using the powers of the First Slayer and the combined might of her and her three friends, Buffy beat back the powerful Adam and ripped out his uranium power core, deactivating him instantly. Using magic, Buffy then caused the uranium core to collapse in on itself, creating a vacuum where it had once existed. Magic competes constantly with the forces of physics and in this case the tiny wormhole used to force an object in this universe into another without compensating was more than the spell could cope with. It sustained the microscopic wormhole for hours, unable to close, but managing to contain it, until several hours later when the magic dissipated and the wormhole collapsed naturally in upon itself, first forcing objects from the other dimension into this one, then sucking in everything from this one into it. Before it was through, it had destroyed the secret room thoroughly in the Initiative and created a monstrous cavity in the earth in the other dimension, where Adam came to rest after the wormhole finally stabilized and closed. His body heavily damaged from the forces of the wormhole, his emergency backup systems, so far dormant due to the sudden removal of his uranium core and only minor secondary damage, activated and restored to him a moderate amount of energy to assess his surroundings and condition. Finding his discarded uranium core in the cavity, he dragged himself to its location with his weak power systems threatening to fail and reinstalled it haphazardly before suffering a complete shutdown of all systems. For days he lay dormant.

Then his systems reactivated. He finished the repairs to his core and began running system scans to correct any errors in his CPU. The physical damage to his unit could only be repaired through new transplants. And for transplants he needed donors. And for donors . . . he needed to reach the surface.
